Two new violins are on their way. They are already starting to acquire their personalities through the choice of model (both Guarneri), the choice of wood (both one piece Bosnian maple backs from the same tree and one piece alpine spruce tops from the same tree), the arching height and how I chose to cut the tops and backs from the wood blanks. Even though the wood is almost identical for these two instruments, the slight differences give me hints as to what characters I should try to emulate in each violin.
The current planning is that these violins, when they’re ready, will go to London on first trial, and Gothenburg on second trial. But if you’re interested in trying them out, please let me know and we might be able to arrange something. They should be varnished and ready by the end of April or beginning of May.
